“The first celebration of the ‘International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies on the 7th of September 2020 ‘ will set a precedent for an important and exciting new international day for clean air to be celebrated annually. The observance of this Day is open to the UN member states, UN organisations, international as well as regional organisations and the civil society.
Given the current backdrop with the wide-scale transmission of COVID-19, the Day assumes an important role in propagating the urgent need to address air pollution and the challenges it poses while adding emphasis on moving toward sustainability at an individual, national as well as global level ” . The theme for the Day is set as ‘ #CleanAirForAll‘ .

- On the 23 July 2020, IUCN launched the first ever global standard for ‘Nature Based Solutions’ in a high level virtual event. The Standard is said to be a product of rigorous consultation with a cross section of stakeholders spanning 100 countries
- ‘The Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions enables everyone to consistently and reliably design, verify and scale-up NbS. According to the IUCN NbS Group’
- When on the ground NbS project activities are uniquely tagged , registered to say a NbS global registry , the project certified to the NbS Standard, the concomitant quantified impact presents potential to be converted to ‘ NbS Block Credits’ which could then be traded on the Green DEX
- The MUAC – EU Funded Project : Modules for Urban Air Cleaning – is one example in the suggested direction
